  Controversies in Hormone Replacement Therapy
May 07, 2004

Will estrogen therapy cause breast cancer? What about heart attacks? What should I do about these horrible hot flashes? What can I really believe about hormone replacement therapy?

Over the past years, the controversy surrounding hormone replacement therapy has reached a fevered pitch and many questions remain unanswered. The Women's Health Initiative has been the main source of concern. Believe it or not, there are benefits to hormone replacement therapy.

On Wednesday, May 12, 2004, Dr. Ruth Pryor will present “Hormone Replacement Therapy: What Do We Do Now?” at Mercy Medical Center. Dr. Pryor will discuss the benefits and risks of hormone replacement therapy, current therapy recommendations, and the Women's Health Initiative. If you are concerned, confused, and considering hormone replacement therapy for perimenopausal symptoms, you should not miss this presentation. Dr. Pryor is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, and a local obstetrician/gynecologist.

The free lecture will be held from 7 – 9 PM in the O'Hara Conference Room, Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, MA. Light refreshments will be served.

This lecture is part of a series of lectures presented by Women's Health Associates through the Red Hot Mamas, a national organization devoted to educating women about personal and health issues related to the perimenonpause and menopause. Membership in the Red Hot Mamas is offered without charge and is a must for all women, their families and friends interested in obtaining sound medical information about menopause, enhancing their self-esteem through increased knowledge, and becoming more involved as managers of their own journey through menopause.

To register for the lecture or to obtain more information and a lecture schedule, please call Jan at 413-736-9978.
